Match Russia -
Rest of the World
The WebMaster wil defend the Norwegian honour in
the match Russia - Rest of the World. The Russian Chess
Federation is celebrating its 10th anniversary and is using this
occasion to challenge the rest of the world to a match over 50 boards
with 2 games for each and the preliminary start is January 1st 2004.

I have finished my last
game
in
Christoffel
memorial which was against
Gabriele Cardelli from Italy. The
game ended draw after
after he accepted my draw offer after 57 moves. This
game was very hard and
exciting ! I had the white pieces and the
game started like this
: 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 d4 3.g3 c5 4.b4! this goes under the Reti opening
(A09), but perhaps reversed Benkö is the right name !??. After this
finishing draw did I end up with 10 points out 14 possible, which is 1
point over the
GM - Norm. Please see the

I have finished my fourth

Olympiad, this time a win against
Alex Van Osmael from Belgium who I also
play against in
EU-FSM-65 Semifinal Group 07 !.
I had the
the white pieces but treated the
Reti opening ( A13 ) very bad. So he was better all the way, but then
he suddenly starts to play some bad moves and lost the
game after he
blundered he´s queen away. Please see the

ICCF Congress
2003 in Ostrava
I am going to Ostrava ! .... I have to day bought flight
tickets from Stavanger to Ostrava. So I will be present at this
years ICCF Congress.There will I get the opportunity to recive my GM
title personally. I have never been in the Czech Republic or Poland
so I am looking forward to that ! I am taking this tour like an late
summer holiday and the opportunity to meet

from all the world!

I have finished one more
game in
EU-FSM-65 Semifinal Group 07.
Also this time a draw, this time against
Zeljko Ivanovic who is coming from
Croatia. I played with the white pieces but did not manage to
get any advantage after the opening which was a line in the English
opening
( A30 ).
Zeljko put up a fortress and got he´s

against
Dr.Horst
Kosmol who is coming from Germany. I played with the
white pieces and the opening was a

The life goes on ................. After yesterdays good news are I
back to the usual trot, specially after Hilmar Krüger ( GER )
managed to draw our
game wich I
was certain to win. I played with the
black pieces and the opening was a line in the Sicilian defence
( B90 ), Hilmar accepted my draw offer after 43 moves. Please see the

Grandmaster in CC
After Hans-Joakim Hofstetter gave up our game in
Christoffel
memorial, did I reach 9 points which is also the
Grandmaster Norm in this tournament. And
to day I got the confirmation from George Pyrich who is the
Qualifications Commissioner for ICCF that I will be awarded the
Grandmaster title in the next ICCF Congress, which will be held in
Ostrava next .month. Here is the confirmation Email from George;

I have won my game
against Hans-Joakim Hofstetter who is coming from Germany. When I
was standing some better did Hans-Joakim a decisive mistake when he
jumped over a move in he´s analysis. So this was a "lucky" win for
me. I played with the

Finally
gave

North Atlantic Team Tournament, Board 1,
This means that I have finished this Team tournament with 5˝
of 10 on board 1 for Norway. Eric and me played over 30 months and

I have
got a invitation to play in Purdy Jubilee Tournament and have
accepted to play in group A. which will be E-mail, 15
players, GM Level, category XII, and have a expected start date
November -December 2003. Here is

approval from ICCF to organize postal and email international
chess tournaments under the auspices of the ICCF in

20.06.2003 I am back from Hospital
Dear chessfriends, I am back from hospital where the operation
nearly went after the plan, I had to wait two days on the hospital
before I got it, but then the doctors took want they want ! ( just like the tax
office in Norway ! ) so now are my small intestine 25 cm shorter
and I have lost around 7 - 8 Kg of my stomach volume after the bad
period of the Chron disease started. So now are I just looking
forward to the bathing season !

Bernard
Partridge Memorial Final
The one outstanding game of this exciting event has been won by
Manuel Jaime Summers of Belgium, after a marathon 78-move tussle
with Steve Williams of England. The game came to a end after
Steve set up the position wrong and
left he´s endgame piece en prise. This means that Mr, Summers
won the Bernard Partridge Memorial with the
fine score 9˝/12 and a
outright first place, with me on second place on 9/12. Heiko Starke
of Germany finished third with 8/12, and fellow-countryman Harry
Kunz fourth on 7˝/12. The preliminary stages of this event began in
October 1995, with the final starting in July 2000. Congratulations
to all the prizewinners !, and a big thank-you to all my competitors
for making this such an enjoyable and hard-fought tournament!! Take
care all my chessfriends !

Special Leave
I have applied for special leave
for this period 10 -24 June in all my
current tournaments since I have to go
back to hospital and take a operation in stomach.
They have to take away 25 cm of my small intestine
which is inflamed and have a narrow passage, which give me pain and
a hard time to eat.

4 - 5 weeks now, and today I will to go to hospital for
further investigations for two weeks. I have Chron disease and it is

2003 is still continue good for me !, because to
day got I information that confirms that I have got my first
GM Norm. I got the norm after 8
of 10

This was a Category VII. ( 2403 ) tournament. Where the

The new year 2003 is continue good for me ! I have won

After more than 3 years playing, first with snailMail and then with
Email so gave Mr. Nikolai Muzyka from Russia up our game. This mean
that I got 8 of 10 points. This is also the GM
norm on this table. Norway ended up in second place in this
group after Finaland and are therefore qualified for the
final!. The
